Goodbye Pacifier-

Aug 6, 2013. This date is significant because it is the first night Logan slept without a pacifier! This is huge because he absolutely loves his pacifier.

He would wake every morning with it in his hand. He would eat, play, and go about his normal routine with it within a few feet at all times. Once he turned 2, we resolved to start anew with the plan to take it away from him during the day and only give it back during naps and at night. We did this for a week and then randomly Monday night when he asked so sweetly for his "pass", I replied that I did not know but that he was big enough to sleep without it. And sure enough he proved me right by sleeping soundly like the big boy he has always thought he was. We are so very happy for him and us. The next morning he did good and didn't ask for it at all until bedtime.

(FYI: if we have no more children, which is currently the plan, then this moment if saying goodbye to the pacifier is not only significant for Logan, but for us as well. Since Ella doesn't take one, we are truly saying goodbye in a very real sense. I find it only appropriate to say that I have been a fan of this tiny soothing device that both my baby boys loved so passionately. It was so easy for them to say hello and not so easy to see it go. Every moment when they were hurt or extremely tired the pacifier was there as the biggest help to us. It was also very helpful as a "plug" to stick in Logan's mouth at church before he learned the appropriate voice volume. I will cherish the memory forever. So to the "pay" and "pass" I say thanks from a mother of two boys that thought they couldn't live without it in the first year, and of two smarty girls who knew from the beginning that they could and it was better for me to deal with their soothing needs in while different way. Oh how much I've learned!)

Logan's big boy check list:
Step 1. Remove "pass" - check
Step 2. Potty train. -Goal Jan 2014. Age 2 1/2.

Haiden was potty trained at 2 1/2 and K by 2-ish. In my experience it was much easier at 2 1/2. KK started learning at age 2, but didn't have it mastered until several months after. After that trial, I decided the appropriate or maybe magic age for me is 2 1/2. We shall see!

Either way exciting times at the McGowan house. :))
