The day of the ward party was a mess for us. We obvisouly love to dress up so of course going to a ward halloween party is a highlight every year! We love halloween- we also love a good ward halloween party! It's a package deal of the season for us.
It's important to have your costumes complete and lookin' awesome-
Well, the day started off ok. I made a cake for a friend's son's birthday which we delivered that morning. Haiden had karate tournament practice as well and I couldn't hold the cake and drive, so we all got ready a little early and off we went with cake in car (I was near panic throughout the entire drive). We made it to karate and then back home where I had just enough time set aside to complete boot covers for the kid's costumes and get to the party on time.
I was downstairs, deeply involved in boot covers, while Michael was upstairs with kids and cooking chili when Ella screams. In the midst of it all, I heard Michael say a choice word, which clued me in to something bad just happened.
Ella had cut her finger on a metal can top.
Kailey was helping make the chili. One of her jobs was throwing away the empty cans. Sadly the garbage was full, so the can tops were in easy reach.
It became clear that Ella would probably need stitches...
We loaded everyone in the car and off we went to Children's Mercy Urgent Clinic.
2 1/2 hours later and 2 stitches, we were on our way back home which is about the time that we started thinking about the ward party and how we really wanted to go....
SO, we arrived home and yes, got dressed as quickly as could.
We arrived an hour late. No boot covers. And a huge pot full of chili at home.
But, it was fun.
Ella was medicated, stitched, and bandaged all up! She was all smiles and happy along with the other kids! We missed the chili eating and socializing, but made it for a cupcake and truck or treating! Considering the ordeal, and most importantly that Ella was okay, this night wasn't too bad.
Here is a look at Ella's finger:
The next day was rough-- it took Tylenol to get Ella semi- back to normal.
She was grouchy, but who could blame her? Certainly not us.
We were very grateful that she was okay! It can always be worse, right?
